For some people just having the vermouth near by is enough. If your idea of a great martini is cold gin and the thought of vermouth, this is the martini for you. Though not technically a martini, it has been a favorite of some notable names. Winston Churchill preferred ice-cold gin with a bow toward France in lieu of the vermouth. Alfred Hitchcock felt the closest he needed to be to vermouth was across the room. Finally, Queen Elizabeth II likes her gin with three lemon slices.
- 3 oz. Gin
- Lemon twist or Green Cocktail Olive
Stir the gin in a mixing glass (or shake it in a cocktail shaker) with ice. Strain it into a chilled cocktail glass. Then either drop the olive in or rub the lemon twist around the rim of the glass, twist it over the drink and drop it in. Enjoy.
