The Classic Cuban drink with more recent roots in Boston. If you happen to be near Tremont St., stop in at The Last Hurrah they make wonderful drinks - one of which is the Periodista. The recipe below is my wife's best approximation of their version of the drink. She prefers a spiced rum, but you can use your favorite.

The Periodista

  • 1 1/2 oz. Rum
  • 1/4 oz. Apricot Brandy
  • 1/4 oz. Cointreau
  • 1/2 Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 tsp. Simple Syrup
Using a jigger put all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled 3/4 full with ice. Shake vigorously until it is well chilled. Strain the drink into a chilled cocktail glass.
